The final act of the season kept a surprise in the form of big game for New York City F.C. The group led by Patrick Vieira faced the match against Columbus Crew with the hope of finishing in the top of the Eastern Conference. David Villa sought to win the Golden Boot in a nice dispute with Wright-Philips.
The NYCFC was ahead on the scoreboard with a goal by colombian Stiven Mendoza after a great cross from David Villa. The Guaje could increase the advantage of his team with a beautiful shot from the edge of the area, but the ball hit both posts before going wide.
The Columbus Crew took advantage to tie the match just after the break through Ola Kamara. Vieira turned to Frank Lampard to get ahead again and Jack Harrison scored a goal for 2-1. Shelton put the third and shortly after Villa scored the fourth taking advantage of a loose ball in the area.
The goal of the captain of New York City represents the number 23 of the season and is only one less of the Golden Boot after Wright-Philips also scored in the Decision Day.
